Being an Intern

"Always go with the choice that scares you he most, because that's the one that's going to help you grow." Since I was finished with my first year of bachelor in Edinburgh in April, and were having a 5 months summer holiday, I was sending out applications to many different companies to see if anyone needed an intern. I didn't get many replies because I had little experience, and for almost all internships you need background knowledge. That's why I was surprised when I suddenly got a reply from TED BAKER, which wanted me in London for one week! I felt so relieved, happy and thrilled at the same time, and replied that I would love to come there and help them out. www.tedbaker.com´

I am in London right now, and just had my first day: I was on time, and had read about the background of Ted beforehand. I arrived at The Ugly Brown Building, their headquarters, and signed in. I was placed in the studio, where I met so many inspiring, helpful, cheerful and hard-working people, who showed me different tasks and preparations for photoshoots. Since I am just on placement, I was mostly observing how they arranged the whole shoot with outfits, models, photographers and stylists. But I was also helping out with steaming clothes and tidying up around the area, followed by learning a bit of Photoshop from a man editing the pictures taken. He was willing to teach me the basics of PS and I am grateful, because that's something I am really interested in and want to learn.

Later on during my week as an intern I learned more about all the various departments inside the building, and what the different people are working with before the piece of clothing is in the store. They have merchandise, HR, marketing, finance, IT, creative, designers, PR and much more. It's totally crazy how many people there are working for the same things to happen. I was also asked for doing some research on fashion styles of 2017 and learned even more of PS. Today I was sitting in the marketing office, helping out with tasks related to my studies. It's all about content!

Being able to get this internship and learn a lot for free, which you can use later on in life, is a gift. I appreciate that I've gotten the chance to experience all these moments, the people, ways of shooting, how stylists are working, what's going on in a fashion studio, and marketing-related perspectives at work.
